The Conscious Classroom: Purchase College & Aligned Center Contemplative Education Series
EVENT DETAILS
In this special talk, part of a series on contemplative learning co-sponsored by Purchase College & the Aligned Center, Amy Edelstein will unpack some of the challenges facing students today and the value of a broad and deep contemplative practice.
What prepares students for an uncertain future? How do we help our youth handle the complexity of modern life? Is there a compass that can navigate through endless options towards true North? Amy Edelstein will share a powerful system that supports contextual thinking, mindful awareness, and trauma-informed well-being. The Inner Strength teen program has served more than 5,000 inner city high school students since 2014 with some inspiring results.
Edelstein established the Inner Strength Foundation in 2014 to cultivate the higher potentials and capacities in teens. Based on the best insights of her thirty-five years of contemplative practice and almost twenty years teaching meditation internationally, the Inner Strength Teen Program has been delivering evidence-based improvements in self-regulation and self-compassion among its participants. Her award-winning book The Conscious Classroom documents some of the classroom highlights as well as the philosophy underpinning this innovative mindfulness and developmental thinking program.
In this talk, Ms. Edelstein will share how the components of the program work to help students’ realize their higher potentials, ways that the work can be replicated among diverse populations, and why teaching kids context is perhaps more important than teaching content, even within mindfulness programs.
